DESIGN
has been an integral part of our community and green infrastructure planning
efforts since Behan Planning and Design was founded in 1994. Our design team
includes members with more than 20 years of experience bringing big picture
ideas to the ground to make truly great places.
OUR APPROACH to the design process is built from three essential ingredients: a
thoughtful analysis of the site and setting, evocative listening to the vision of our
client, and a creative transformation of ideas, materials, and systems into a new
or improved place. We work hard to integrate the input of our clients and client
communities into the process, so that the places we design are loved and adopted
by the people who call them home.

Service Areas
COMMUNITY DESIGN
Community design is the foundation of
our practice. Working closely with
planning staff and the community, we
are able to create places that reflect the
character and vision of that unique place.
TRAILS, PARKS, AND
RECREATION DESIGN
Recreation infrastructure is a vital
component to making a place great.
A key to successful parks and trails is
providing strategic connections to and
through populated areas which assure
their use and safety.
SMALL SCALE SPACES AND
GARDEN DESIGN
From public courtyards to private garden
designs, the creation of small, intimate
spaces allows users a place of respite and
reflection which are an essential part of
any far-reaching plans.
DESIGN GUIDELINES
We create a toolbox of images and
narrative to describe what a successful
development looks and feels like—an
important complement to master plans
and zoning regulations.
DESIGN REVIEW
A new development, whether commercial
or residential, can have a major impact
on the character and function of a place.
Our design review process assures our
clients the feedback necessary to make
sound decisions for the future of their
community.
SITE MASTER PLANNING
Using “better site design principles,”
Behan designers work towards creating
environmentally sensitive places blending
landscape and architecture.
VISUALIZATION
A picture paints a thousand words.
Through a combination of several
techniques including hand renderings,
3-D models and photo simulations as
needed, we can efficiently deliver
graphics that communicate a vision.
