GREEN INFRASTRUCTURE
is the interconnected system of rivers, forests, farms and other natural resources that provide us with clean water, clean air, local food, and recreational opportunities. To maintain green infrastructure, we need to plan for and invest in it, the same way that we do for our “grey infrastructure” of roads, water lines and energy systems.
From the award-winning Greenprint for Pittsford’s Future to the Green Infrastructure Plan for Saratoga County, Behan Planning and Design has grown a core practice in green infrastructure planning. We collaborate with community leaders, landowners, land trusts, resource specialists, scientists, and many others to integrate the preservation of our natural resources into the economic and community goals of our clients. Our green infrastructure projects range in scale--from a park master plan; to a town open space plan; to a county watershed management or regional natural resources management plan. We consider the natural borders of resources as well as the political boundaries where implementation often occurs. Our mapping and planning products reflect our client communities,  personalized to their individual character and needs. Both public and landowner involvement are important components of our green infrastructure planning efforts in order to ensure broad support for resource conservation initiatives. The measure of success of our green infrastructure planning projects is the long-term health of our client communities.
