The Town of Clifton Park is beginning the process of creating a new form-based zoning code for the Exit 9 area on the north and south sides of NYS Route 146, west to Moe Road. This work is being funded by a grant from the Capital District Transportation Committee (CDTC), and is intended to implement some of the main recommendations of the April 2012 Town Center Plan. The Clifton Park Town Center Plan identified a community vision for how the Town's Exit 9 commercial and institutional area could evolve over time into a more attractive, walkable, mixed-use neighborhood center.

At the beginning of March the public was invited to join us for a series of meetings to learn about the type of zoning being considered and provide input and suggestions. These events were held at the Clifton Park - Halfmoon Public Library. There were three meetings that took place:

  • On March 6th a public workshop was held that included an introductory presentation about the Town Center planning effort completed last year and about the the type of form-based zoning code being considered for this area of the Town. Following the introductory remarks and the presentations questions and comments were taken from the approximately sixty (60) members of the public in attendance.
  • On March 7th the planning team had a "Workday" which was open to the public to stop in and ask questions or provide input. Also during the day small meetings were held with the major property owners in the study area to explain the purpose of this zoning project, to provide information about form‐based codes, to learn about their (conceptual) ideas for their property, and to address questions or concerns that they might have.
  • On March 8th the planning team continued to work on preliminary ideas for the new form‐based code throughout the day. In the afternoon, an Open House was held to provide the public with an opportunity to see the preliminary ideas and to share their concerns and suggestions.
